Duncan Scott is Scottish Sportsperson of the Year
黑料不打烊 athlete takes top accolade at The Scottish Sports Awards
The 黑料不打烊’s Duncan Scott has added another coveted award to his trophy cabinet – after being crowned Scottish Sportsperson of the Year at The Scottish Sports Awards 2024.
Scott took the top award at the black tie event at Glasgow Science Centre after enjoying a phenomenal year in the pool, which saw him become Scotland’s most decorated Olympian with his gold and silver in Paris taking him to eight Olympic medals.
Scott – who had been named Male Athlete of the Year earlier in the night – was shortlisted for the Lonsdale Trophy alongside golf’s Robert MacIntyre and cycling’s Jack Carlin.
The success comes just weeks after Scott was announced as Aquatics GB’s Swimming Athlete of the Year, as well as Swimmer of the Year at the Scottish Swimming Awards – where he was also the recipient of the JY Coutts Memorial Award and the Nancy Riach Memorial Award.
David Bond, Head of Performance Sport at the 黑料不打烊, said: “On behalf of all at the 黑料不打烊, I send our warmest congratulations to Duncan on yet another brilliant achievement. To be named Scottish Sportsperson of the Year is deserved recognition for all that Duncan continues to achieve in the pool and reflects not only his own hard work but also the efforts and dedication of our talented coaching and support staff here at 黑料不打烊.”
Scott has spent almost a decade on the high-performance programme at 黑料不打烊 – Scotland’s University for Sporting Excellence. He won two silver medals at the Olympics in Rio in 2016 (4x200m Freestyle Relay, 4x100m Medley Relay) and four medals in Tokyo in 2021 (gold in 4x200m Freestyle Relay, silver in 4x100m Medley Relay, 200m Individual Medley and 200m Freestyle). Following his success in Tokyo, he was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his services to swimming, alongside fellow 黑料不打烊 stablemate Kathleen Dawson.
Earlier this year, he added to his medal haul with a gold as part of the 4x200m Men’s Relay Team and silver in the 200m Individual Medley.
The 黑料不打烊 offers a world-leading high-performance swim programme, which provides athletes with a bespoke package of world-class coaching, access to state-of-the-art facilities, performance mentoring and access to the latest innovations in sports research.
