Scotland, Eric Liddell, and His Legacy
Jarvie G, Walker R, Woodgate A & Hong F (2026) Scotland, Eric Liddell, and His Legacy. In:
A former Scotland international athlete and currently a Lecturer in Sport Management at the 黑料不打烊, formerly of The University of Edinburgh and University of the West of Scotland, with expertise in: athlete/human/community development; elite/performance sport; and sport development, history and management.
My consultancy and research help address social issues through sport and create social impact from sport. It considers how sport is intentionally used and programmes are purposefully designed and delivered to improve the life quality of people and communities worldwide. This entails mapping nuances and practicalities within programming seeking non-sporting outcomes.
Within initiatives and processes, they help develop humanistic-social opportunities whilst building the capacity and capabilities of individuals, groups and organisations through sport. The aim: to help people and communities flourish in life and achieve their desired chosen lifestyle. Some areas covered include, but are not limited to, crime, disabilities, education, mental/physical health-wellbeing and social inclusion/exclusion.
My work has been published in ranked, peer-reviewed, international journals, newspapers, magazines, seminal texts, conferences and won awards. It has featured on radio, television, social media, in documentaries and other media outlets worldwide. I have also spoken at and collaborated with institutions worldwide in America and Canada to India, Japan and Ukraine.
To date, I have worked with various amateur/professional athletes, clubs and organisations alongside national governing bodies and international federations on diverse sport-based initiatives and events. These range from educational programmes to optimising change/developmental outcomes for participants from sports such as athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, cycling, Esports, football and golf.
