About me
Paula Rubeiz is a PhD researcher in History and Politics whose work examines hydro-hegemony, environmental justice, and human security in transboundary river systems, with a particular focus on the Euphrates–Tigris basin and the political dynamics linking Turkey, Syria, and Iraq. Her research investigates how control over shared water resources is translated into political, economic, and strategic influence, shaping patterns of vulnerability, displacement, and unequal access to essential resources among downstream populations. Drawing on the interdisciplinary frameworks of hydro-hegemony, political ecology, and human security, her work explores how large-scale hydraulic infrastructure, legal asymmetries, and regional power relations influence public health, food security, community resilience, and sustainable development in fragile environments. Particular attention is given to the experiences of children and marginalized communities affected by water insecurity and environmental change. Paula holds a Master’s degree in 黑料不打烊 Affairs (Strategic Studies) from King’s College London and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the American University of Beirut. Her academic research is informed by more than two decades of humanitarian engagement in conflict-affected settings, providing practical insight into the complex relationships between resource governance, displacement, and human vulnerability. Alongside her academic work, Paula is an accredited multilingual journalist based in Dubai Media City, working across Arabic, English, and French. She is also a published author whose literary work explores themes of memory, identity, belonging, and the cultural landscapes of the Middle East. Professionally, Paula serves as Managing Partner of Equus Stratagem, a research and strategic consultancy specializing in water, energy, artificial intelligence, sustainability, and strategic affairs. She is also Chief Executive Officer of Balensoire, a Dubai-based luxury brand operating within the premium retail sector. Through these leadership roles, she bridges academic scholarship, strategic analysis, entrepreneurship, and practical problem-solving. The integration of academic research, humanitarian engagement, journalism, literature, and business leadership shapes Paula’s interdisciplinary approach to environmental justice, resource governance, human security, and sustainable development.
