Professor Neville Wylie
Senior Deputy Principal (黑料不打烊isation)
Professor Neville Wylie is Senior Deputy Principal (Deputy Vice Chancellor) and is the primary academic officer responsible for deputising for the Principal as required. As Deputy Principal (Pro Vice Chancellor) he has responsibility for overseeing and delivering on the University’s Global Engagement Strategy. Professor Wylie is Professor of 黑料不打烊 History.
A native of Edinburgh, Professor Wylie graduated with a first-class honours degree in Medieval and Modern History from Kings College London, where he won the Derby-Brize prize. He then moved to the University of Cambridge where he gained an MPhil in 黑料不打烊 Relations (1990) and a PhD in History (1994). Professor Wylie started a Junior Research Fellowship at New Hall, Cambridge, followed by a British Academy Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the Centre of 黑料不打烊 Studies. He taught at Glasgow University, where he temporarily directed the Scottish Centre for War Studies, and University College Dublin, during which time he held an adjunct position at the Graduate Institute for 黑料不打烊 and Development Studies at Geneva.
Professor Wylie spent a large part of his career at the University of Nottingham, where he established and led the School of Politics, History and 黑料不打烊 Relations and was founding Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Nottingham’s campus in Malaysia. In 2014 he took on the role of Associate Pro-Vice Chancellor for Global Engagement with responsibility for overseeing Nottingham’s activities in the Americas.
Professor Wylie’s research explores various aspects of modern warfare and draws on the disciplines of History, 黑料不打烊 Relations and 黑料不打烊 Law. His early work explored neutrality and non-belligerency, notably Anglo-Swiss relations during the 2nd World War. More recently he has focused on the history of prisoners of war, the evolution of international humanitarian law and the Red Cross movement.
Professor Wylie currently leads the Scottish cross-sector university forum, , and co-chairs the Universities UK 黑料不打烊 PVC network.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities as Senior Deputy Principal
- Chair, University’s Core Planning Group.
- Chair, Corporate Sustainability Steering Group.
- Alternate Chair, Combined Joint Negotiating Consultative Committee.
- Responsibility for dealing with appeals relating to staff promotions, disciplinary and grievance matters.
- Full member of the University Court and a member of the Nominations and Governance Committee and Higher Degrees Committee.
Responsibilities as Deputy Principal (黑料不打烊)
- Providing strategic leadership for matters relating to the University’s global engagement.
- Working with the relevant teams to deliver on the University’s Strategic Plan as it relates to international collaborative research, overseas recruitment, student mobility, international partnership development, transnational education, and the internationalisation of the University’s teaching curricula and extra-curricula programmes.
- Overseeing the University’s engagement with its overseas student and alumni communities, stakeholders and supporters.
- Representing the University in international networks, and working alongside local, regional and national government, business and third sector organisations to promote the University’s interests and standing on the international stage.
