Abstract
Brief presentation of ceramic production on the Graciosa island within the context of similar productions on the Azores archipelago. Two more relevant production cycles were identifi ed: coarse ware for local consumption, between 1915 and 1986, made from Santa Maria island clay; and tiles for local and other island consumption, between 1830 and 1970, made from local (Graciosa) clay. Knowing and trying to understand these ceramics is an opportunity to learn, even if only partially, the reality experienced by the people who produced, traded and used them.
